OnBoardNC launched in November of 2015 with the goal of increasing the number of qualified Triangle-based women represented on corporate boards.

The group’s creation was inspired by then North Carolina State Treasurer, Janet Cowell.  As part of a corporate governance initiative, Treasurer Cowell invited diverse Triangle CEO’s, corporate directors and thought leaders to brainstorm ways of increasing diversity on North Carolina’s corporate boards. Within weeks, the vision of creating an organization of board-ready, Triangle-based women leaders was realized.

Founding members Lissa Broome, Jean Davis, Deborah Hylton, Karen LeVert, Maureen O’Connor, Sallie Shuping Russell, and Melissa Waller developed the initial characteristics of board-ready candidates. OnBoardNC continues to refine our definition of board ready candidates with input and guidance from the business community. Several of our members have earned board seats since joining OnBoardNC.

Our membership now exceeds 35 and we are pleased to launch this website to facilitate our work.
